Living Waterfeatured
In life there are things that we just can’t live without. Water is one of them. Did you know that our bodies are about 55% water and our brain is about 85% water? If you don’t drink water and feel like you live in a fog and are always fatigued I would suggest you pick up a glass of water but that’s another blog altogether. Our body needs this water for things like hormone production, neurotransmitter function, memory processes and much more. Our spirit has the same needs as our body but for living water!
My Experience
I remember one time a few years ago I was running a 5K with my siblings and it was a super hot day at the beginning of July in Michigan. Now to be totally transparent, I am a delicate creature and don’t do well in high heat or extreme cold, so running on a day in July that was over 90 degrees with no shade and no water was probably not a good idea to begin with but hey, who said I always think things through :)? I started off doing great! I felt peppy, high energy, like I could run this race in 10 minutes. However the longer I ran the hotter I got! I could feel the sweat pouring down my face, running down my back, my feet starting to throb from being to hot and my face was getting that tight feeling that it gets when its starting to turn red from the heat. I could feel my heart beat in my brain and when that starts to happen I know I am in trouble!
With all these external signs of dehydration my body was internally going through a shift as well. I could feel it in my mouth first. Have you ever had a time when you were so thirsty your mouth felt like it was packed full of cotton balls, like there was no production of saliva going on and your tongue stuck to the roof of your mouth? You would like to open your mouth, possibly even talk but your body doesn’t cooperate and all you can think of is “I NEED WATER”!?! This is what I was experiencing!

When I finally reached the finish line the only thing I could do was grab a water bottle and chug it! Let me tell you, it was such a glorious thing! I could feel it running down my esophagus and into my stomach, running to every cell in my body (I probably just thought I could feel this in my overheated head)! Then I collapsed onto the ground and just laid there, letting the water infiltrate every part of me, rejuvenating me!
Living Water
Whether you know it or not, your spirit man is thirsting for this “water”. We are all searching for something to quench the longing within us to feel loved, to belong, to know our creator. We try desperately to fill that longing with the things of this world like; relationships, alcohol, music, sports and yet without Christ we never quench that thirst.
When we except that Christ is who He says He is, He isn’t just a good prophet who had good things to teach, He isn’t just a mere human being, He is God in the flesh. He left his heavenly throne, came down to earth as a human, lived a perfect life, was beaten and crucified as a punishment for our sins past, present and future, died and then rose again so that those who believe in Him will have life even after death. When we believe in Him He gives us that living water. He gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit!
John 7:37-39 says, “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this he meant the Spirit whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”
John 4:13 says, Jesus answered her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The Holy Spirit is the only one that can quench your thirst. Except Jesus and receive this wonderful gift for yourself and never thirst again!
