Is It Blind Faith?

Is It Blind Faith?featured

“Christians walk around, living on blind faith. There is no validity to what they believe.” Have you ever heard those statements or some variation of them? There is a mindset that it takes a huge leap of faith to believe in Jesus or that God created our universe and us. That there isn’t any evidence to back up what Christ followers believe. What do you think about faith in Christ?

Hebrews 11:1-3 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it, the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”

Do you know how many things you believe in faith on any given day?

Let’s say you step out of your house to get in the car, and your hair starts whipping around your head. You grab it to put it into a ponytail and say, “Man, the wind is wicked today!” Guess what you just did? You made a statement of faith. Do you see the wind? How do you know that it is the wind that is causing your hair to blow?

Or how about your body? How do you know that your nails are going to grow or that for the majority of us, when we open our eyes, we are going to be able to see our surroundings? These are all beliefs in faith. This is exactly what the end of this verse is saying. The things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. We cannot see the wind, we cannot see the intricate workings of our eyes or even the individual cells that make up our nails. It wasn’t until the 1600’s that the microscope was able to be used, where scientists could start seeing things like cells and pores. Not knowing what building blocks created our bodies, we knew how they would function, and once again, the Bible is proven to be true: “the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible”.

This same concept is being placed on how we must believe in Jesus. He has given us science for us to know that he raised from the dead (this is not something we have to take by faith). He has given us history to know that he really existed (this is not something that we have to take in faith). He has given us the Bible, which over and over again has been proven to be true. “The Bible has proven to be more historically and archaeologically accurate than any other ancient book. It has been subjected to the minutest scientific textual analysis possible to humanity and has been proven to be authentic in every way.” (https://www.icr.org/biblical-record)

With all this being said, there really isn’t any faith that comes into play in believing the Bible and that Jesus is who he says he is. The faith comes in when we move about in our day to day lives. We have to trust in faith that the things he has said in his word are true, that when we want to do one thing and yet the Bible has given us a promise for us if we do another, when we do what the Bible says, we will receive that promise. Abraham is a very good example of this in the Bible.

‘God called Abraham to settle in an unknown land and promised him countless descendants. Childless and old, Abraham continued to believe God. He was 100 years old when the promised son was born. His faith was counted to him as righteousness because he trusted God. Belief for its own sake is ineffective; the object of faith is what matters.’ (Engaging Gods Word Galatians)

Take the step (not a leap or blind leap) of faith in believing Jesus, in making Him the LORD of your life, the one who died in your place and instead of pushing Him away, let Him give you life.
