I was doing my Bible study this morning and I happened to grab my water bottle and take a drink at the same time I was reading a scripture. 1 John 4:11-13, “Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.” Taking a drink of water brought a very vivid picture of Gods love poured in us and through us, the Living Water.
Thirsty
Have you ever been so thirsty that when you take a drink of water you can literally feel the water flow down your esophagus and spread out into your stomach, the coolness of the water a sharp contrast to the inner temperature of your body? This is what I experienced in the moment of reading the passage in 1 John. I could feel the cold water running down my throat and hitting my stomach.
I closed my eyes and a picture of God’s love in me, spreading through my body, flowing to every cell came to mind, like feeling the water run down my throat. When we show love to others, when we live our lives walking in love, God is being brought to full expression in us. It’s like taking a drink of that water and feeling it spread throughout your body, or having your heart pump and every cell that makes up who you are is feed by that constant flowing.
God, living inside of you, “pumping” through you manifests as love pouring out of you.
God is The Living Water
Jesus said in John 4:10,14, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
Take a drink of Jesus, allow Him to penetrate every cell of your body, allow Him to flow through you so that He can quench your “thirst”. King David describes it as a deer panting or longing for the water. (Psalms 42:1).
What are you longing for? What drives you and your activities on a daily basis? Is it a longing for more of Him or more of this world? Only HE can quench your thirst!
How do you show up to those around you? Are you a depiction of his love flowing through you?
Prayer
Father, help us to get a revelation of who you are and that giving you glory, living our lives for your glory is what matters. Help us to long for you like we would long for a fresh drink of cool water on a hot day. Become for us, our source of living water and help us to walk in your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
